Ready, Set, Tri

Marion, KS

*******UPDATE SEPTEMBER 6, 2017********

Registration will be open at 6:00, feel free to come early and set up your bike, but know that you may not register until 6:00 am. For relay teams, all members need to be present before you can register. A pre-race meeting will be held around 7:45 and the race will begin at 8:00.

SWIM: Many of you have asked how we will be doing the indoor swim. This will be a serpentine swim and will actually be cut down to 300 yards (I know you’re probably all excited about that!) In order for this to go as smooth as possible, we will have a staggered start with approximately 10 seconds between racers. No diving will be allowed, but you will be able to get in the water and kick off the wall for your start. Everyone will have a chip timer on their ankle that will take into account the staggered start. It is acceptable and expected that swimmers may pass during a serpentine swim, we just ask that you be respectful and pass cautiously. In order to cut down on the need for passing, we ask that you SEND US YOUR APPROXIMATE SWIM TIME, AKA HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO SWIM 300 YARDS? Please send this to jed@competitorschoicetimingspecialist.com by Friday! This will determine your swim order and chip number. If you want to be in a group, that’s fine as well, just mention that to Jed (you will need to move to the spot of your slowest swimmer you want to stay with).

BIKE: I have attached the bike route again for those who have recently registered. The final distance is 9.3 miles. HELMETS ARE REQUIRED!

RUN: We met with the timing specialist this evening and made a change to the run route, I have attached an updated map if you’re interested. There will be water/first aid stations at mile markers 1 and 2 on the run and we will have someone stopping traffic for you to cross Main Street both times. The run will leave the Sports and Aquatic Center (SAC) heading North and turn to the East (so you know the direction you’re running on the map). You will return to the SAC from the West. The final distance is a 5K (3.1 miles).

In an effort to keep Marion County fit, active and healthy we will be hosting a Ready, Set, Tri triathlon on September 9, 2017 at the Marion County Lake! All proceeds from the event will go to the Can Be Healthy Marion initiative. This group consists of five members from the community that are dedicated to making Marion a safe and fun place to be active.

Start the day off with an open water 500 meter swim across the Marion County Lake. Emerge from the water on a sand beach and take off on your bike through historic Marion and back to the lake. Transition, and finish the race with a 5K run that will challenge you as you go up and down hills around the beautiful Marion County Lake. Stay around for after the race for awards, great food and conversation.
